Who is Spiritual Sophia?
σοφία
Greek transliteration: Sophia
Definition: wisdom (either secular or divine); wisdom can be personified.
I am a woman of Greek heritage, I am the third generation within my family with the name Sophia and have always been deeply interested in history. In university I studied history and ultimately received my bachelor’s degree in it, but upon leaving the academic bubble and entering the “adult world” I have realized the startling lack of women’s history – HERstory. The aspect of history that have always fascinated me have been the spiritual and religious autonomy ancient women were able to seek within the temple walls. This fascination and ever-present curiosity lead me to deepen into my spiritual practice through literature from modernity and academic interpretations of the feminine.
While I was drawn to the feminine, I have not always exclusively walked along Her path. Upon graduating with my bachelor’s, I entered into the highly masculine world of the high-tech Silicon Valley, recruiting for prestigious companies. I thrived in this environment for several years and I inevitably found my identity entwined with my work and my nervous system became increasingly unregulated. In an effort to grasp my retreating identity, I started my journey online in January 2020 by sharing my original art and the beginning whispers of my truth. Like many others, after emerging through the fog of the global pandemic I found that my voice had radically changed, and art had transformed into poetry and a relearning of my innate nature.
These two aspects, the yin and yang, fused together once I started the descent into my shadow self to confront the old patterns, conspections, and stories that had created an environment that led me to disassociate from my true sovereignty. I had crossed the threshold into the Underworld when I discovered the deeply healing practices of the Sacred Embodied Wisdom. It provided me with the movement and tools needed to go deeper within and accept the parts of myself in shadow and in the light. This modality also led me to accepting a deep inner call – the priestess hood of Aphrodite. The Greek Goddess of Love, Beauty and Sensuality has supported me as I have learned to embrace those aspects of myself fully alongside my inner masculine. By performing Her rituals, singing Her Hymns, and learning Her stories and history, I gain healing for myself, my ancestors, close friends and clients. She is a reflection of us all - a woman misrepresented by male story-telling.
Through my own work; embracing the light and dark within, seeking the highest good, and dancing within the sacred realms of the divine, I am uniquely able to help you on your journey. I have walked this path alone and within sisterhood and mentorship, and I am here to support you on whatever stage of your journey. The Sacred Feminine Arts are about re-claiming your life, giving a voice to the body and subconscious so they can work with you instead of clinging to familiarity.
Whether you are making the first bold step, you’ve engaged with aesthetic Instagram able mental health content, or journeyed on retreats – there is always another door leading you further in, further back home to your authentic self.
